Scottsdale relaunches sustainability awards

With environmental stewardship at the forefront, the city of Scottsdale is relaunching its Sustainable Scottsdale Awards Program – an initiative that celebrates outstanding contributions to sustainability and environmental stewardship within the community.

“Scottsdale is committed to responsible stewardship of the natural and built environments,” said Mayor David D. Ortega. “The Sustainable Scottsdale Award Program honors the innovators and dedicated leaders who are shaping a sustainable Scottsdale as a model city, now and into the future."

The program recognizes exceptional leadership and innovation in sustainability and showcases efforts that exceed typical environmental practices. Nominations close 5 p.m. April 1.

Submissions are sought from projects focused on water conservation, renewable energy and sustainable practices; initiatives that improve air and water quality, recycling and waste management; and contributions toward energy efficiency, environmental education and broader community impact.

To apply visit ScottsdaleAZ.gov and search, "Sustainable Scottsdale Award." Complete the online application and attach a narrative (500-750 words) detailing the project’s environmental impact. Including supporting materials like data, photos or videos is optional.

Winners will be selected by the Scottsdale Environmental Advisory Commission, seven residents appointed by the city council who have expertise in sustainability.

An announcement of the winners is planned to occur during Scottsdale’s annual Earth Week celebration in late April.
