Scottsdale resident Lauren Click was selected to receive $50,000 from Stanley 1913 for her work in making composting free and accessible.

The Stanley Creators Fund was inspired by innovation and the company’s core value of supporting local communities. The grant program is designed to support individuals and early‐stage organizations working at the intersection of humanity, sustainability and possibility.

Click is an Arizona native, born in Tucson, raised in Chandler and now residing in Scottsdale. She is 26 and graduated from Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business in 2018 with a degree in marketing. Prior to working for the nonprofit Let’s Go Compost full-time, she worked for various marketing agencies and in-house marketing teams.

Click founded Let’s Go Compost after learning to compost in her own home during the pandemic, using a composting tower created from worms and discarded bakery buckets. Inspired, she shared the eco-friendly method with her community and local teachers. Now the nonprofit is dedicated to making composting free and accessible across the United States, with free compost bins, a classroom composting program, advocacy and funding for underserved communities.

This funding will empower Let’s Go Compost to grow its STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Classroom Composting program for school gardening and sustainability efforts, as well as help them support more community gardens in becoming free food waste drop off sites for the general public to enjoy.

Composting has allowed Click to foster her love of creative problem-solving through practical, hands-on science concepts, turning abstract ideas into something not only understandable, but that can be put to use in day-to-day life.

Let’s Go Compost shows people how to compost in apartments, homes and offices, and drive people to their local community and school gardens for free food waste drop-off sites — fostering local food systems and promoting circularity within neighborhoods. They host many free community workshops, in addition to working with many Arizona schools for composting initiatives in school gardens and in the classroom.
