Scottsdale City Manager Jim Thompson has announced the hire of Greg Caton as Scottsdale’s newest assistant city manager. Caton is a native Coloradan with a background in municipal government.

Caton is a credentialed local government professional who has spent the past eight years as city manager in Grand Junction, Colorado. Prior to his tenure in Grand Junction, Caton served as the town manager in Oro Valley. His public administration journey also includes eight years as the assistant city manager for the city of Durango, CO.

Caton holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Fort Lewis College in Durango and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Colorado at Denver. He attained the Credentialed Manager designation from the International City/County Management Association.

Active in Colorado’s local government community, Caton participated in statewide multijurisdictional groups and served as a board member for the Colorado Intergovernmental Risk Sharing Agency.

“I look forward to joining the Scottsdale team,” said Caton. “Scottsdale is an organization with an excellent reputation, and I have family who reside there, so it’s a perfect alignment for personal and professional interests. I could not be more excited.”

Caton will work alongside Scottsdale’s current assistant city managers, Bill Murphy and Brent Stockwell, when he assumes his new role May 6.
