Saddleback Communications, a provider of fiber-based internet, voice and cloud communications services for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, recently completed the addition of more than 3,000 new fiber miles to its core fiber optic backbone.

The new fiber network is part of the sizable fiber and communications network on the SPRMIC and to the community business customers, which includes finance, healthcare, technology and other companies located along the Interstate 101 corridor.

Fiber optic internet delivers data via a cable filled with thin glass or plastic fibers. Fiber networks carry more bandwidth than similarly sized copper cables with speeds nearly 20 times faster than regular cable.

The additional fiber triples the size of Saddleback’s transport network and is part of preparations for new Core Backbone Technology (Arista) Saddleback plans to implement later this year.

The expanded fiber capacity is also part of a new node, a point of intersection in a data communication network, designed for more capacity and further reliability and redundancy for communications services.
