Desert Hills Community School of Music has expanded its faculty by welcoming Gabi Johnson, a singer who studied voice at the University of Arizona’s Fred Fox School of Music, as its new voice instructor. As with DHCSM’s other music lessons and classes, Johnson’s voice lessons will be held on the campus of Desert Hills Presbyterian Church, 34605 N. Tom Darlington Road.

With vocal experience that has spanned genres and states, Johnson has performed and served in leadership positions with competitive show and concert choirs throughout her high school and college years in Arizona. She has performed with the Honors Performance Series Choir at New York City’s Carnegie Hall and has amassed a decade of musical theater experience around the Valley. In 2023, she starred as Belle (“Beauty and the Beast”) and Christine (“Phantom of the Opera”) in Phoenix-area productions.

Johnson’s awards include the National Association of Teachers of Singers voice competition (third place, 2017) and Arizona Thespian Festival solo vocal performance (first place, 2016). She has worked in various teaching environments, including managing choirs, teaching choreography and art, leading choral sections and teaching English in South Korea.

Voice lessons with Johnson are now available in 30-, 45- and 60-minute segments. The School of Music also offers a variety of group classes and private lessons for kids and adults on instruments including the piano, cello, saxophone, flute, guitar and more.
