Families and caregivers seeking information about community services and education options for special education students after high school are invited to attend an information fair next week, hosted by Scottsdale Unified School District.

The Transition Fair takes place 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in room 222 of Scottsdale Community College’s Indigenous Cultural Center, 9000 E. Chaparral Road.

The fair will introduce and help connect neurodiverse students and their family support systems with a variety of local resources and social service providers that are available to help the students move on from the high school world to adulthood.

“This transition period from high school is an exciting time for these young people,” said SCORE Lead Stephanie Muecke.  “We are happy to be able to provide – all in one place, at one time – the information that will enable them and their families to make decisions about possible next steps.”

Through SUSD’s new partnership with SCC, SCORE students learn work and life skills and interact with young people their own age in a post-secondary education environment.

“That is the true definition of transition services,” said Muecke.  “This partnership is possible because of SUSD teachers and district and community college leaders all having the same goal of doing what is best for students.  SCC is the absolute best place for this program.”
