Abrazo Scottsdale Campus has earned re-accreditation as a comprehensive bariatric center through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, an accreditation granted by the American College of Surgeons.

As an Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program comprehensive bariatric center, Abrazo Scottsdale Campus provides the support and resources necessary to address the entire continuum of care for bariatric patients, according to a press release.

The Abrazo Medical and Surgical Weight Loss Program includes doctors, dietitians and nurses specially trained in bariatric care. A variety of surgical options are available including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, duodenal switch, adjustable gastric band and revision surgery.

Weight-loss surgery has benefits well beyond weight loss, including remission or reversal of type 2 diabetes, improved mobility and increased energy, lowered risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke, reduced or eliminated joint pain, and improved self-esteem and confidence.

Natalie Lopez struggled with her weight since age 18. At her heaviest, she weighed 270 pounds and was tired of years of struggle with her weight. Two years after her bariatric surgery, she is no longer diabetic, feels better and is physically active.

“I could barely walk without needing to catch my breath, and bending down was always a challenge. I am constantly on the move now and not hiding at home,” Lopez said in the release. “It changed my life in so many ways. I have more confidence than I have had in a very long time.”

Weight loss surgery is considered safe, but like any surgery, it does have risks.

“Those who are considering surgical weight loss are encouraged to consult with their personal physician about the risks and benefits,” Dr. Daniel Fang, Bariatric Medical Director at Abrazo Scottsdale Campus, said in the release.

“The (Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program) accreditation ensures that our program has all the key resources, expert surgeons, and specially trained staff necessary for optimal care. The prestigious designations we have received are independent affirmation of the quality outcomes we deliver,” Dr. Fang said in the release.

Abrazo Scottsdale Campus has also earned top designations for quality and value in bariatric surgery from by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Blue Distinction+, Optum Center of Excellence, Aetna Institute of Quality, and Cigna 3 Star Quality designation for bariatric surgery.
