Abrazo Scottsdale Campus honored its nurses during National Nurses Week, May 6-12, recognizing the role nurses have in caring for their community.

As part of the celebration, the hospital was visited by the Arizona Nurse Honor Guard, a nonprofit group of active and retired nurses who volunteer their time to pay tribute to the professional community of nurses.

The group visits hospitals to show support for working nurses every year during Nurses Week. They also pay respect to fallen nurses for their commitment to the nursing profession.

“Nurses Week activities are a way to show support for the unwavering devotion that our nurses provide to patients, their families and each other,” said Rona Curphy, chief nursing officer and COO at Abrazo Scottsdale Campus, in a press release. “Our nursing staff is at the heart of Abrazo Scottsdale’s focus on delivering compassionate care.”

National Nurses Week is celebrated each May to coincide with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. Like Florence Nightingale, today’s nurses serve with passion and dedication for their patients every day, the release continued.

“Abrazo nurses have many roles – staff nurse, nursing leader, educator, infection preventionist, nurse practitioner and more,” according to the release. “They serve these roles with a passion for the profession, their patients, team members and a strong commitment to patient safety.”

Abrazo Scottsdale Campus CEO, Ruben Castro, added his praise for the nation’s nurses.

“May is special time of year to celebrate all of our remarkable nurses and healthcare workers,” Castro said. “We are grateful to all of our teams every day for putting our patients first and for their essential support to ensure every patient in our community receives high quality care.”
