    Scottsdale Society of Women Writers welcomes Betty Webb

    Betty Webb will be the speaker at the May 29 meeting of the Scottsdale Society of Women Writers.

    Former journalist, Betty Web is the author of twenty mysteries: the bestselling Lena Jones mystery series (“Desert Redemption” and “Desert Wives,” to name a few.). “Lost in Paris” (2023) was the first book in her new mystery series, set in 1922, France. Lost was followed this year by “The Clock Struck Murder.” Betty worked as a graphic designer in Los Angeles and New York City, but eventually shifted to journalism. In her years as a reporter, she’s interviewed everyone from U.S. presidents, astronauts who worked on the moon, Nobel Prize winners, and polygamy runaways. Betty teaches creative writing and has served as Writer in Residence at various Arizona libraries.

    The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Panera Bread at Gainey Village, 8777 N. Scottsdale Road, suite 302, Scottsdale. Check in begins at 5:15 p.m.
    The cost is $20, which covers the meal.

    Members bringing guests should let Patricia L. Brooks know at the above number. Guests are allowed to visit twice before being asked to join. Monthly dues are $50.

    The goals of the group are to:

    • Value all the professional women writers sharing their ability.
    • Honor all genres and all forms of professional writing.
    • Attend monthly meetings to move the group and its members forward.
    • Learn and share in the experiences of monthly professional speakers.
    • Grow the group to a membership of active and contributing women.
    • Encourage participation by members as mentors, and volunteers.
    • Support and challenge each other to always be writing.
    • Help members to stretch as writers and reach lofty personal goals.
