The Scottsdale Fire Department asks residents to please practice the ABCs of water safety. The department has responded to 11 water-related incidents so far this year. Sadly, five of those incidents resulted in fatalities. Water safety is important all year long but is especially essential in the summer when most drownings occur.

No one should swim alone – adults included, and everyone should learn how to swim. Scottsdale Aquatics is offering free swim lessons throughout August for both residents and non-residents. Browse classes and locations. Or see more details under Programs and Services.

To keep children safe around water, practice the ABCs of water safety:

    • Adult supervision always.
    • Barriers like pool gates and locks – see what’s required in Scottsdale.
    • Classes and U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets.

Learn more and request a Water Safety Assessment by visiting ScottsdaleAZ.gov and searching “pool safety.”
