SCOTTSVILLE, N.Y. (WROC) – A portion of Main Street in the Village of Scottsville was blocked off Sunday morning. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says the road was closed between Rochester Street and Wyvil Avenue for a homicide investigation.

Deputies said they received reports of a person who had been shot in the front yard of a home on Main Street at around 2:20 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived to the scene, deputies located Scottsville man Kevin DeFlavis, age 43, who was deceased and had multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies do have a person of interest they’re speaking to. The cause of the homicide remains under investigation.

The area of Scottsville is a pretty tight knit community. Rylee LaRocca and Casey Taber work at Ikon Ice Cream at the corner of Main Street and Rochester Street. They heard the news right away and were shocked.

“I didn’t really know what was happening,” Taber said. It is just such a surprise that something like this would happen in this town especially.”

With the homicide happening so close to the ice cream shop, the two were extra careful getting to work today.

“I didn’t even know if people were going to want to come here, or if we would even be open today,” LaRocca said. “And it’s sad that something like this is happening in such a small town where everyone knows each other.”

Deputies say there is no threat to the community. Main Street reopened shorty before 11 a.m. on Sunday.
