Authorities say the wounded officer is Detective Kyle Gilmartin, a 9 year veteran of the force, currently listed in critical but stable condition at Geisinger Community Medical Center. In 2021, Gilmartin received the 2020-2021 President's Excellence Award from East Coast Gang Investigations Association. Pa. State Police say the shooting appears to have been gang-related. Gilmartin was shot along with an unnamed subject after Scranton police officers were investigating two additional shootings that occurred earlier in the evening. During their investigation officers located a suspect and an exchange of gunfire occurred. One suspect is also hospitalized. Another man, 19 year old Jeremiah Cleveland of Mayfield, is charged in the shootings.
