    District 2 Class 2A Swimming: Classics finish second; Cavaliers fourth

    R.C. Oakes won the 100-yard butterfly and was part of the 200 medley relay victory when Scranton Prep placed second in Class 2A girls in the District 2 Swimming Championships March 1-2 at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.

    Dallas won both team titles, including beating out Scranton Prep 323-264½ in the girls meet.

    The Scranton Prep boys placed fourth of 14 teams. Dallas had 269 points, followed by Tunkhannock with 253, Wyoming Seminary 174 and Scranton Prep 143.

    Oakes led a 1-2 finish in the butterfly with Sophia Galko, who led off the medley relay victory.

    Eva Kaszuba and Tessa Morgan were also on the relay.

    Kaszuba and Ella Schofield were second and third in the 100 breaststroke. Kaszuba was also third in the 50 freestyle.

    Mangan was third in the 100 and 200 freestyles.

    The Classics were second in the 200 and third in the 400 freestyle relay. Kaszuba, Schofield, Maria Purcell and Morgan were on the 200 team. Oakes, Galko, Purcell and Kaszuba made up the 400 team.

    Lukas Iannone led the Cavaliers, placing second in the 200 individual medley and third in the 100 backstroke.

    Iannone was also part of third-place finishes in the opening and closing events, the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays, with Ben Kessler, Noah Lynch and Liam Ong.

    Scranton Prep won the Lackawanna League girls title with an 8-0 record and finished third in the boys league at 6-2.

    Iannone is Scranton Prep’s top seed going into the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships March 15-16 at Bucknell University. He is seventh in the 200 IM.

    Kaszuba, a freshman, leads the Classics as the eighth seed in the 100 backstroke where Schofield is 13 th .
