    Tree toppled near house in Scranton

    SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Emergency crews responded to a downed tree that trapped several people in their home in Scranton Monday afternoon.

    Crews were called to the intersection of Luzerne Street and 15th Avenue around 12:30 p.m.

    A person who was in the home at the time tells 28/22 News they heard a noise and when they came out, the tree was on their porch blocking the exit.

    Residents say there were heavy winds in the area when the tree came down.

    The Scranton Fire Department was called to clear a path for the homeowner.

    I-80 closed due to tractor-trailer crash

    “It’s still having some cracking going on, cause that limb is just hanging. So that’s going to come down, got a tree guy coming, called the landlord,” said Scranton resident Lisa Edwards.

    The Scranton Fire Department was called in to assist. There were no injuries reported.

    A tree removal company was called to clear the debris from the backyard.
