SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — President Biden and former President Trump went head-to-head in the first presidential debate of 2024.

There is plenty of reaction from voters.

28/22 News spent the day in Scranton, also known as President Biden’s hometown, to gather opinions on what viewers thought about Thursday night’s debate

The first debate between President Biden and former President Trump is sparking a great debate among voters. Over who is the better candidate some heavy opinions, frustrated opinions

“Disappointed, I never thought I would be in a position not to know which candidate I wanna vote for,” said Bonnie a viewer.

Some say for them the debate was mostly filled with pointed criticisms and sharp exchanges

“They did not answer any of the questions that were asked I would say 90% of the time, it was basically a blame game everybody blaming the other side for what was wrong,” says Barry a viewer.

Others were disappointed that both Trump and Biden did not provide detailed answers and potential solutions to the questions about pressing issues our country is facing.

“I think they kind of skipped the question about Putin, and about how they will help Ukraine, and like for Trump it all just comes down to money. I wasn’t satisfied by the answers,” added Victoria Robitaille.

Voters were also disappointed by Trump’s failure to present factual arguments and Biden’s lack of emphasis on his accomplishments

“A lot of facts were inaccurately presented,” stated Barry.

“I don’t think Biden’s assets were exposed, how much he really has done in his term so far,” said Bonnie.

As for President Biden’s performance, those who voiced their opinions were unimpressed

“I mean I’m a Democrat, I like Biden but I think he didn’t do well yesterday,” continued Robitaille.

“The fact of the matter is he did not perform up to anything that I thought he would,” says Barry.

Overall, people here in Scranton wanted a more meaningful debate from our presidential candidates.
