SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The debate between President Biden and former President Trump is still stirring up conservations across the country and in NEPA.

Many residents are voicing their concerns about the president’s ability to lead for another term.

After President Biden’s performance during the debate, residents in his hometown of Scranton are questioning if he can handle another four years in office.

“Nothing against Joe Biden, but he’s falling asleep on television and stuff like that, and I just think that he should either bring in Kamala Harris or somebody else should run for president. It’s nothing against Joe Biden, but you gotta put your health first, health is wealth you know,” said Scranton resident Ant Marquis.

Some residents suggest that while Biden has served the country well, the signs of aging are becoming apparent.

“I feel that Joe Biden has did enough for this country that he needs to step down. His health, his age, and you got to be in consideration of all that because something can happen and then the vice president is going to kick in, so why even waste the time, I feel that he can’t do the job no more cause he’s just up there in life,” said Eddie Kearney.

Others believe that Biden’s wisdom and experience outweigh his age-related concerns.

“He should definitely run, I know what it’s like to be an older gentleman, and sometimes things are more difficult but we have a certain wisdom and capability that younger people don’t have,” said Stanley Hale from Scranton.

Adding to the mix, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro shared his thoughts on President Biden’s performance during the debate

“Look Joe Biden had a bad debate night and Donald Trump was a bad president and would be a bad president,” Governor Shapiro said.

Governor Shapiro discussed the differences in political views between both 2024 presidential candidates and who has his vote.

“I think there remains a clear contrast in this race, I’m going to do everything in my political power to make sure Joe Biden is re-elected,” Governor Shapiro continued.

The next presidential debate is scheduled for September 10 on ABC. However, no set time has been announced.
