SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Independence Day celebrations are already off with a bang. Thousands came to the Electric City’s Annual Scrantastic Spectacular.

Wednesday marked the 12th Annual Scrantastic Spectacular out here on the square and the show did not disappoint.

The fireworks display is considered one of the best here in NEPA and one many in the crowd say is a must-see.

A burst of red, white, and blue filled the sky above the Electric City on Wednesday night setting off the Fourth of July.

“It’s spectacular. It really really is. You think it’s over and then some more is coming up,” said Scranton resident Irma Barnes.

A schedule of events ran straight through the night at Lackawanna County’s Scrantastic Spectacular.

An electrifying mix of wind music from the northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic Brass and Percussion Ensemble performed right on North Washington Avenue.

As mac n cheese, pulled pork, and brisket, some of America’s favorites were served up.

“We’re usually slammed. We usually get busy when there’s a lot of people around. It’s delicious people enjoy it. I don’t think you can beat it,” said Authentic Texas BBQ Smoked and Sauced Manager Joe Preate.

Bounce houses, games, and other festive activities crowded the square drawing in people even from out of the area.

“It’s really really nice. A little bit different from what we usually do but. We usually set off little fireworks in the parking lot or something. It’s really different from what we usually do,” said Reading resident Avion Roberts.

The Fourth of July celebration runs big in the city of Scranton, but Independence Day will always stand as more for Veteran Kenneth O’Hara from Moscow.

“It’s really important it. I really can’t explain it,” Kenneth said.

“It’s like everybody’s happy. Instead of fighting or whatever everyone’s happy,” Barbara added.

The spectacular night concluded as vendors wrapped up and people made their way out of the city.
