SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Reptile lovers unite, and that’s exactly what they did Sunday in Downtown Scranton.

Hundreds of people poured into the Hilton Conference Center for the Fifth Annual Electric City Reptile Expo.

This event featured creatures many people love, like snakes, turtles, and lizards.

There were even non-reptiles like spiders and fish.

Event coordinators keep bringing back this expo to prevent other reptile lovers from having to drive hours away to see this sort of thing.

“The reptile hobby is way, way, way more popular than probably it’s ever been and it’s not just, you know, the crazy guy down the street that’s got a snake anymore,” said Electric City Reptile Expo Co-Founder Matthew Helring.

“He’s so soft and silky. It’s nice. He’s, he’s a good size, too. It’s a he, right” Allentown resident Jose Figueroa said.

Part of the proceeds raised at the expo benefits the United States Association of Reptile Keepers, a science, education, and conservation-based advocacy group for the responsible private ownership of, and trade of reptiles and amphibians.
