SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Prospective local homeowners and renters are now armed with some valuable information thanks to a first-time event.

NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania held a home fair today on Courthouse Square in Scranton.

The nonprofit offered a one-stop shop for prospective homebuyers, homeowners, renters, and landlords.

The event is considered especially helpful for people who are new to northeastern Pennsylvania.

Gearing up for an annual tradition

“With the market what it is, we need to make sure the information is out there for people. Some people are buying multi-unit properties and if they become a landlord they need to know what laws are in place for landlords. They need to make sure they’re following those laws. We also want to make sure if you’re a renter you have the information on what the laws are, so you know no one is taking advantage of you. So it’s literally information for everyone here,” explained Kathi Tavera the Event coordinator at NeighborWorks NEPA.

“You can learn about rent and buying. And you know, location and stuff. An environment that you move into and you know if they’ve got schools close to where you want to buy the house at, a church, and things like that,” added Willie Smith from Scranton.

The event in Scranton also served as a way for community businesses and non-profits to learn more about each other’s programs.
