SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Day one of the 100th Solemn Novena at St. Ann’s Basilica in Scranton is underway. One of the novena services just ended minutes ago.

The Novena began bright and early today with a mass at 8 am this morning

Tents, chairs, and green spaces were filled throughout the mass in the afternoon and so was the Basilica. With the summer heat, St. Ann’s has the option for attendees to cool off and watch the mass inside the Basilica with a live stream of the mass taking place outside.

There is also an option to listen to the mass from your car on the radio, guests just need to tune in to 90.1 FM. But despite the heat and the summer showers, the Novena has become a tradition for many to attend to

“Well I’ve been doing it for many many years and it’s just such a beautiful thing, many prayers have been answered, I think it beautiful, I don’t know where all those years went but it’s just a beautiful time I really enjoy it,” said Nancy Matticks of Scranton.

There is another mass and novena coming up at 5:30 p.m. and then a mass in Spanish at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Novena service.
