No sign of man presumed drowned in Russian River near Monte Rio
Law enforcement agencies continue to search for a man who has been missing since Wednesday evening after swimming in the Russian River near Monte Rio. Sonoma County sheriff's deputies and the Sonoma County Fire District responded to an emergency call at 6:17 p.m. Wednesday regarding a missing man just west of Monte Rio. The man had last been seen swimming in the Russian River near Villa Grande, an unincorporated community located on the river. Deputies and firefighters were unable to locate the man and called in additional support to help the search, including the Sonoma County Sheriff's Marine Unit, Sonoma County Sheriff Volunteer Dive Team and the Monte Rio Fire Protection District. The search was suspended at dark. Thursday morning, the search resumed with the Napa County Sheriff's Office's Marine Unit and Dive Team supporting the search efforts with its remote-operated underwater vehicle. The search was once again suspended at dark. The search for the man continued Friday.

A vegetation fire, dubbed the Grade Fire, has ignited east of Hopland along State Route 175. Traffic is backing up and CDF has requested closure. The blaze started on the 8400 block of Highway 175 and according to the Incident Commander is one acre in size and threatening multiple structures. The fire is described as growing at a moderate rate of spread having a moderate potential to grow in size. Both air and ground firefighting resources are converging on the area.

In the early hours of the morning, a white Tesla collided with a tree on Highway 128 at mile marker 22.7, resulting in a significant fire. Anderson Valley Fire Chief Andres Avila provided details on the incident, noting that the initial dispatch came in at 4:54 a.m. “Upon arrival, we found a Tesla fully involved in flames, with the driver already outside the vehicle,” said Avila. The driver, who sustained leg and back injuries, was given medical care and flown to a nearby trauma center.

CAL FIRE is reminding you that it is illegal to sell, transport, or use fireworks that do not carry the “Safe and Sane” seal, as well as possess or use fireworks in a community where they are not permitted. If convicted, you could be fined up to $50,000, as well as be sent to jail for up to one year. Over the past few months CAL FIRE has been providing intelligence and support to local and federal illegal fireworks enforcement efforts. Since 2013, in the State of California, there have been over 22,000 acres burned by fireworks, causing $62-million dollars in property and content loss.
