SEABROOK — Three Seabrook police officers were honored recently with their department’s Life Saving Awards for their responses to life and death situations.

Seabrook Police Chief Brett Walker said officers Timothy Scott, Richard Hines and Tyler Houldsworth went “above and beyond the call of duty” by immediately administering life-saving medical care to victims before the arrival of Seabrook’s Fire Department personnel. Their quick thinking and willingness to provide care without delay, according to Walker, may have prevented the victims from suffering more dire consequences from their injuries, including loss of life.

Scott and Hines were recognized for their life-saving actions on July 11, 2023, in responding to a serious motorcycle accident on Route 1.

Walker said Scott found the motorcyclist involved suffering from a severe leg wound. Recognizing the resulting large blood loss was life-threatening, Walker said Scott immediately retrieved the tourniquet from his cruiser and applied it to the victim’s leg.

However, it wasn’t stemming the flow of blood completely.

Walker said Hines determined more treatment was needed and applied a second tourniquet.

"Your attempts to stop the bleeding prior to paramedics arrival likely contributed to the victim's life being saved," stated the award given to Scott and Hines.

Scott received a second Life Saving Award for more recent actions when he responded to another motorcycle accident on June 16, 2024. This time, the accident was on Route 1A, and once again, Scott found the injured motorcyclist losing a lot of blood. He applied a tourniquet without delay, Walker said, remaining with the victim until the Fire Department arrived. According to Walker, Seabrook paramedics credited Scott’s actions among those contributing to the victim’s survival.

The third award went to Seabrook officer Tyler Houldsworth for his life-saving actions during a stabbing incident on April 20, 2023.

Walker said Houldsworth responded to a call for service from a South Main Street address, where he found a victim on the ground suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen. Houldsworth immediately dressed the wound with a bandage and applied pressure to stem the bleeding until the Seabrook Fire Department got to the scene.

When paramedics arrived, Walker said Houldsworth and his K9 partner Henry tracked the two suspects about half a mile through the woods, over fences, and through high grass.

"The track led to the apprehension of two suspects in a wooded area and the discovery of evidence valuable to the investigation,” Houldsworth’s award read.

Walker said he was proud of all three officers.

“We’re extremely proud of how quickly our officers acted in these instances,” Walker said. “If they had hesitated, a split-second delay could have cost any of these individuals their lives.”
