City of Seadrift to review status of suspended Chief of Police Marie Carisalez

SEADRIFT, Texas - Monday at 6 p.m. the City Of Seadrift is holding a specially called meeting to review the status of its suspended police chief.

Chief Marie Carisalez was placed on administrative leave with pay on June 25, 2024.

Mayor Jesse Hubbell confirmed Chief Carisalez was hired part-time on November 4, 2021. She left the department for a short time and was rehired on June 9, 2022 on a part-time basis. She was hired full-time on May 3, 2023. Mayor Hubbell would not comment on the reason or reasons why Chief Carisalez was placed on leave.

"I'm not at liberty to disclose the reason or reasons, only that the action was consistent with the city's policies and practices," Mayor Hubbell wrote in an email.

Chief Carisalez was named interim police chief on June 14, 2023 when then Police Chief Leonard Bermea was let go.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. Monday in Seadrift at 501 S. Main St.
