ABSS to freeze teacher supplements in order to save $$ in face of $2.4M deficit
Alamance-Burlington school system employees will have their county-funded supplements frozen at their 2023-24 pay rates, in an effort to erase a $2.4 million budget deficit that ABSS began the 2024-25 fiscal year with on July 1, the school system’s administration confirmed for school board members during a special-called work session Monday afternoon.

Illinois Man Arrested for Allegedly Abusing North Carolina Teen
Green Oaks, IL – A 15-year-old girl from North Carolina was rescued from a Green Oaks residence, where she was allegedly held and abused. According to the United States Marshals Service, the missing girl was found on Prairie Ridge Road after an investigation with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. On July 24, detectives obtained a search warrant and apprehended Andrew W. Szech, 43, who was seen leaving the home with the victim.
