Swift response contains Metz Fire to 1,100 acres in South Monterey County
GREENFIELD — South Monterey County faced an unexpected challenge in the heart of a warm summer afternoon Tuesday. Around 2 p.m. on July 23, the usually tranquil fields near Greenfield were suddenly ablaze as a fire broke out on Metz Road. Fueled by strong winds, the fire rapidly spread to an alarming 1,100 acres by evening with only 5% containment.

Kim Stemler Passes Reins at MCVGA to Helena Welsh
July 23, 2024 – We’ve known for some time that Kim Stemler, who has stewarded the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association since 2012 as executive director, recently took on a new job with the Carmel Foundation. Governor orders urgent action on homeless encampments statewide
– Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order today directing state agencies to urgently address homeless encampments “while respecting the dignity and safety of Californians experiencing homelessness,” according to a press release from the governor’s office.
