Officials battle 'highly aggressive' red imported fire ant infestation in Southern California
Agricultural officials in Southern California are battling an active infestation of red imported fire ants that are "highly aggressive in nature," and pose a risk to California's agricultural economy. The infestation occurred at a private property in Montecito, in Santa Barbara County, according to a recent press release from the Santa Barbara County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office. Located over 90 miles north of Los Angeles, Montecito is best known as a celebrity enclave with Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle among the town's residents. Officials did not name the owners of the private property.

For years, some residents in Del Rey Oaks, Monterey and elsewhere have complained about airplane noise from flights taking off or landing at Monterey Regional Airport. Some of those complaints arose after the Federal Aviation Administration, which regulates all the flights coming to or leaving the airport, implemented in 2015 its “NextGen” technology at the facility, part of a nationwide effort to modernize how the agency manages federal airspace.

Greenfield cancer survivor leads Kiddie Kapers Parade as grand marshal
GREENFIELD — Greenfield’s Kelly Mata Navarro, a 12-year-old cancer survivor, was the grand marshal for this year’s California Rodeo Salinas’ Kiddie Kapers Parade. Navarro waved to the thousands of people lining the sides of South Main Street on July 14 from the back of a 1966 Ford Mustang, near the front of the parade lineup.
