UPDATE: SeaTac City Hall repairs underway, will reopen Monday, July 15

Although repairs are still underway, SeaTac City Hall remains closed to the public following a sprinkler activation incident on Tuesday, July 8, 2024.

The city said that efforts to mitigate water damage and restore the building are ongoing, with facilities and vendors working around the clock.

As we previously reported, the City Hall building was closed Tuesday following significant flooding caused by an activated fire sprinkler. The flooding, which began around 5 p.m. Monday, affected all three floors of the building.

City Hall Will Reopen Monday

UPDATE: On Friday afternoon, July 12, 2024, the city said that City Hall will be back open for business on Monday, July 15.

“Please be advised, there will be construction taking place while the building is open to the public, but most of the construction will be at night to minimize impact to normal operations,” the city said. “This process may take three weeks.”

The City Council also called a special session on Friday to approve crews and vendors to begin work to put the building back together.

“The City Council of the City of SeaTac authorizes the City Manager to execute contracts pertaining to the mitigation, restoration, repair, and reconstruction due to the water damage City Hall experienced on July 8, 2024.”

The City is estimating total damage and repairs to be about a quarter million dollars. City of SeaTac does have insurance and staff is currently working on our insurance claim.

During the week, City Hall staff set up a temporary station outside to service walk-ups.

• Municipal Court customers are advised to contact the Court for further directions.
• The SeaTac Police in-person customer service window is also closed, though police services remain available online here.
• Permit applications can be submitted through the city’s online portal here.
• Despite the closure, the Parks and Recreation Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 11, will proceed as planned. The meeting will take place at 4 p.m. in the temporarily opened Council Chambers and will also be accessible virtually.
• City Hall staff will continue their duties from home until the building is deemed safe for reopening.
• Meanwhile, the Community Center remains open during its normal business hours.
