The Seattle Kraken have named Jordan Eberle the second captain in franchise history.

Before the home and season opener, the Kraken announced Eberle will captain the Kraken during the player introductions. Eberle will become the second captain in franchise history, the first being Mark Giordano.

The 34-year-old has played 1018 career NHL games, scoring 299 goals and 702 points. 239 of those games were with the Kraken, including 58 goals and 151 points.

Eberle is becoming a captain for the first time in his career but the former 2008 first-round pick has been an assistant captain with the Kraken for a number of years.

A proven leader and accomplished veteran is more than deserving of this honour. Young players like Shane Wright, Matty Beniers and Ryker Evans can learn a lot from Eberle and they'll continue to do so.

The Kraken selecting a captain means that no NHL team is left without a captain.
