His attorneys argued that the 42-year-old was suffering from a mental health episode when he drove the family Tesla off the highway in January 2023, sending the car plunging 250 feet onto a rocky beach. Patel, his wife and two young children survived. He was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted murder.
