Seattle Kraken star defenseman Brandon Montour revealed on TSN's radio show "Overdrive" that there were talks about signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Born in Brantford, Ontario, it isn't a surprise that Montour considered signing with the Maple Leafs. He was a fan as a child and the possible fit with the Maple Leafs made a lot of sense.

Here's what the right-handed defenseman had to say about the Maple Leafs.

"There were conversations [with the Maple Leafs],” admitted Montour. "When I looked at the roster and myself, I thought I could definitely help and it was intriguing. But there’s a lot that goes into [free agency] with my family and what they need as well as business decisions."

In the end, he chose Seattle but it's nice for Kraken fans to know that a highly sought-after player chose the Kraken.

“There were definitely talks and we thought about it, but there were tons of options for us and we’re obviously grateful for Seattle and that experience.”

The 30-year-old had this to say about the entire process from winning the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers to signing with the Kraken.

"It’s been a crazy two and a half weeks," Montour told TSN OverDrive on Wednesday. "From winning the Cup [in Florida] to trying to find a new home in Seattle, but I wouldn’t change any of that for the world."

Despite winning a cup, Montour wants to replicate that feeling with the Kraken.

"Looking back, the big thing that was really cool with winning in Florida was that it was their very first championship and experiencing that together," said Montour. "Thinking about Seattle and to have the chance to do that there excites me."

The Kraken are hungry to show the league that last year was a one-off and are hoping Montour can play a crucial role in proving it.
