Mariners Called Possible Landing Spot For All-Star Spark Plug On Trade Block

Could the Seattle Mariners make a major splash soon?

Seattle is well-positioned to fight for a playoff spot this season thanks in large part to its stellar starting rotation. The Mariners have a treasure trove of young, exciting starting pitching but need to add some more pop to the middle of the lineup this summer.

The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline is just over one week away and there should be plenty of options available for the Mariners. One player who the Mariners were mentioned as a possible landing spot for is Miami Marlins All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr. by The Athletic's Aaron Gleeman and Tim Britton.

"The Marlins appear poised for a deeper rebuild, and Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s positional versatility -- he can help a team at second base or in center field -- should make him an appealing target," Gleeman and Britton said. "The 26-year-old hasn't backed up his breakout 2022 season in either of the last two years, loitering around the league average as a hitter. Chisholm's OPS this season is almost 100 points better away from Miami. Potential landing spots: Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, (and) Seattle Mariners)."

Chisholm has been great for the Marlins so far this season and has 13 home runs, 45 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases in 96 games played. If the Mariners could go out and get him, he immediately would give Seattle a much-needed boost for the offense that is has been looking for.
