Mariners acquire former All-Star, NLCS MVP, and World Series champion

The Seattle Mariners have made a surprising move to bolster their offensive presence and make a run for the playoffs before the trade deadline.

It's hard to think of a team more active before the trade deadline than the Mariners, acquiring All-Star Randy Arozarena from the Tampa Bay Rays and right-handed pitcher Yimi Garcia from the Toronto Blue Jays. Now, it looks like another Blue Jay will be joining Garcia in Seattle.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Mariners acquired designated hitter Justin Turner. The trade was seemingly confirmed when Turner was pulled from Toronto's game against the Baltimore Orioles.

According to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times, the Blue Jays will receive one minor league prospect in return. The prospect has yet to be named.

Currently the fifth-oldest player in MLB, Turner began his major league career with the Orioles in 2009. He has also played with the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox. However, he is most well-known for his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2014-2022.

Turner was a two-time All-Star (2017, 2021), the NLCS MVP (2017), and a World Series champion in 2020. In 2022, he was honored with the Roberto Clemente Award, recognizing his sportsmanship, community involvement, and contribution to his team.

While he isn't the flashiest acquisition made by the Mariners before the trade deadline, there is no doubt that Turner brings a veteran offensive presence to a team hungry for its first World Series.
