NFC West Watch: 49ers QB Brock Purdy No. 28 on NFL Top 100

Seattle Seahawks fans might need to find their nearest air sickness bag before reading this. Making his debut on the annual NFL Top 100 Players list at the lofty ranking of No. 28 overall is San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

Yeah. Doesn’t feel right to me, either.

By looking at raw numbers exclusively, Purdy certainly seems up to par for a starting quarterback. Purdy threw for 31 touchdowns against only 11 interceptions (should have had considerably more, but defenders can’t seem to hold on when he throws the ball their way) and manages to help guide the Niners to wins. His 17-4 career quarterback record is certainly impressive, as is making it to the NFC Championship Game in each of his first two seasons – not to mention an appearance in Super Bowl LVIII.

But Purdy does not pass the eye test. He is the definition of “born on third, thinking he hit a triple.” As the No. 262 pick from the 2022 NFL Draft – literally the last pick in the draft – he landed in the perfect situation with a San Francisco roster packed to the brim with talent. When watching any 49ers game, it is clear he is not the driving force at all behind any of their offensive success, which is driven by the likes of Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel.

In the NFL, “quarterback wins” is the stat that somehow seems to matter the most above all else, and in this regard, Purdy has found a way to be in plenty of wins with this roster.

But to everyone else who isnt a 49ers fan, seeing him rank in at the 28th best player in the league is more than a bit of an eyeroll
