The Sedalia City Council has approved the submission of a grant application for improvements to the city’s municipal airport.

City administrator Kelvin Shaw says the competitive grant opportunity comes up each year.

The council amended the budget to allocate the 10 percent match needed to receive the grant. The council also approved the purchase of a new cutter truck with a camera for the utilities department, totaling nearly $590,000. Shaw says the new truck will help clear blockages in the city’s sewage system and address their causes.

Also at last Monday’s meeting, the Sedalia City Council approved an agreement with Roadway Asset Services to establish an asset inventory and pavement index, and extended the city’s license agreement with Nucor for grading work in anticipation of a rail spur extension. The council also agreed to a work plan to monitor petroleum and other contaminants in the soil at the site of a former gas station at East Broadway and South Hancock, where the city’s second Taco Bell is currently under construction.
