At 12:26am PDT July 23, 2024, Longview Washington was rattled by a 2.1 earthquake. Earthquakes at this low numver are rarely felt. There may be some rattling of silverware or pictures on the wall but typically they are too small for the average person to feel. Due to the shallow depth of approximately 36 miles, it didn't do any damage.

Although a 2.1 earthquake is considered to be relatively minor when it comes to earthquakes, it's important to remember that seismic activity is going on all around us. Such small earthquakes serve as a reminder that the region is part of the Cascadia Subduction Zone.

While this particular earthquake wasn't felt, it's important for residents in earthquake prone zones to always have an emergency kit and an evacuation kit at the ready. Local authorities have concluded that there was no damage or threat to the community.
