Did you receive a phone call from someone stating that you missed a jury summons or have an unpaid parking ticket or some other kind of ticket? If so, you’re not alone. Another tactic in Washington State gaining momentum is fraudsters pretending to work for the local police or sheriff’s department.

In the phone call, they claim that you have recently missed a jury summons or not paid a parking ticket or some other kind of ticket. They then go on to tell you that if you don’t pay the bill right now, they will come to your house and arrest you.

Victims should be wary of any claim demanding money from them immediately. Never, under any circumstances, does the Sheriff’s office or police department call and demand money from you. Protect yourself from such fraudsters. Hang up.

You can also block their number on your phone. Don’t fall prey to such fraudulent calls. Avoid such callers by only answering the phone to numbers that are known to you. Let the rest leave a message.

If you have already paid for a fraudulent call like this, notify your police department and let them know. You may not get your money back, but you can help others in your area avoid fraudulent tactics like stealing your money.
