The University of Alabama-Birmingham laid the foundation for Dr. Kenneth Davis’ future success.

Davis, a Selma native, graduated from the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine in the spring. Davis was placed into diagnostic radiology, a five-year residency program. He will intern at HCA Healthcare at Gainesville/North Florida for a transitional year. The next four years will be completed at Indiana University.

“I’m thrilled to have matched into radiology,” Davis said. “It took many years of dedication and support from amazing mentors, family and friends to reach what will be the most transformational years of my life.”

Davis’ undergraduate degree at UAB came as a double major in chemistry and mathematics, with a Japanese minor. Davis also earned master’s degrees in math and business at UAB.

What’s more impressive about Davis’ stint at UAB was his three-month opportunity to study in Japan. He also traveled to the Dominican Republic, Australia and Germany.

“I was able to share the experience with wonderful people from other nations and U.S. states,” Davis said.

The son of Dr. Glenton Davis and Annetta Cowan, Davis believes his accomplishments are proof that a person from Selma can be successful.

“This is a win for Selma,” Davis said. “I’m proof that once you set your goal in life, it is possible to achieve them even when major obstacles attempt to block your path.”
