Selma City Schools Special Education Director Courtney Utsey was honored by the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) on June 27.

Entering her 22nd year in the special education field, Utsey said she’s grateful to receive the award.

“This year has been profoundly humbling due to professional recognition,” Utsey said. “I was honored to be selected as one of the nominees for the CLAS leadership award. Sharing the stage with so many esteemed colleagues whom I deeply admire was an incredible experience. I reflect on the challenges and the immense satisfaction I have found in advocating for students with disabilities and their dedicated teachers. It has truly been a blessing.’’

SCS released a statement, praising Utsey for her achievement.

“Your commitment to our scholars is truly inspiring,” SCS said in a statement. Thank you for your outstanding work. Hats off to Courtney Utsey.”
