City of Selma, ALDOT work on Riverfront project

The City of Selma’s Office of Planning and Development is working with the Alabama Department of Transportation to start Phase One of the Riverfront Boardwalk Project.

The Riverfront Boardwalk Project, valued at $800,000, is a significant initiative that aligns with the Transportation Alternatives Program’s goals of improving non-motorized transportation infrastructure with the ultimate objective of creating access to the Alabama River from Historic Downtown Selma.

“Our community is deeply invested in this project, and its completion will bring substantial economic and social benefits,” City of Selma planning and development director Danielle Wooten said. “Thank you Alabama Department of Transportation .”

Wooten also thanked the public building department and urged residents for caution and patience with the project underway.

City Councilman Clay Carmichael is pleased with the project’s progress.

“Glad to see this finally come to fruition! It’s been decades and several administrations in the making,” Carmichael said. “This will finally connect downtown Selma to the river, a feature that has been lost since the boat ramp here was covered up many moons ago.”
