With only three original Tuskegee Airmen remaining, the national nonprofit established by these legendary aviators continues its mission to train the next generation of Black pilots. Selma Housing Authority gets $2.3M Jobs Plus grant
Selma Housing Authority has received a $2.3 million grant to start a Jobs Plus office and boost workforce participation of residents at two housing developments. The funds will be used to hire six employees to staff the office, including a director, with efforts focused on helping residents in the George Washington Carver and Felix Heights communities, said Kennard Randolph, executive director.
Surveying begins on $2.4M project that will resurface 60 blocks in downtown Selma
The first visible step in a $2.4 million street resurfacing project in downtown Selma has begun. . Surveying started last week along 60 blocks in downtown Selma and in the area known as Disaster Area 1 since a tornado tore through the city in January 2023. Disaster Area 1 runs east of Broad Street to Marie Foster Street and north of J.L. Chestnut Boulevard to 1st Avenue.
