Latinos Activate JoCo has received a grant from the Peace Development Fund, or PDF, a Massachusetts-based nonprofit that awards grants to groups fighting for human rights and social justice.

Latinos Activate JoCo was one of 19 groups to share $80,000 in grant awards from the PDF’s Seeding the Movement Fund.

Latinos Activate was formed in Selma to build justice for the growing Latino community in rural North Carolina. That community faces bullying in schools, violence and other harassment, the PDF noted in a news release about the grant awards.

Sergio Benitez is the founder of Latinos Activate JoCo. “Our organization has proactively responded to challenges by elevating our community’s voice in essential platforms, like school board meetings, local community group discussions and chambers of commerce meetings,” he said.
