SELMA — Activate Selma has received a $750 Johnston County Community Foundation Grant for its pocket park project.

“We are so pleased to be awarded this grant from the JCCF,” said Kim Wooten, president of Activate Selma.

The money will help spruce up two pocket parks downtown — the Art Out Loud Park on South Raiford Street and Vick Park at 112 E. Anderson St.

“Downtown Selma is the ‘living room’ of our town, and we want our residents, visitors and guests to feel at home when they visit our two pocket parks,” Wooten said. “We are excited to continue the parks’ transformation, and this grant will make that process possible much sooner than expected.”

Before moving forward, Activate Selma wants to know what residents would like to see at the pocket parks. The link to a survey in English is forms.gle/ZxXneLjn75MB9FwQ6. The link for the survey in Spanish is forms.gle/DRauVfEEiKicLBUG6.

The deadline to take the survey is July 26.

“It’s important to know what the public wants since they will be the ones visiting and using the parks,” said Melissa Dooley, grant writer for Activate Selma.

“Activate Selma volunteers are ready to help with everything in order to finish the work for this grant,” she added. “We couldn’t be happier to have received it from the JCCF.”
