SENECA, MO — Over in Seneca this evening, players, coaches, parents and youth campers all gathered at Tom Hodge Field for their Youth Football Camp.

The camp ran this evening from 7-8:30 p.m. for grades 3rd-6th.

The camp was being run by the Seneca coaching staff and a few of the Seneca football players.

There were different offensive and defensive drills that they took the campers through.

One thing Head Coach Cody Hilburn wanted to do with the campers was start getting them into the flow that the high school team works with, so they started to learn different plays and go through the motions like varsity practices.

We caught up with Coach Hilburn and one his seniors on how great it is to see the turnout for the camp, as well as a youth camper who explained what he enjoys the most.

Seneca Head Football Coach Cody Hilburn said, “I’ve said it a hundred times, but Seneca’s a special place to coach football. And these kids grow up loving it from a young age and hopefully for me, I get to coach them at this youth camp and then I’m still around, when they get in high school, I get to coach them there as well”.

Seneca Senior Defensive End Nolan Napier said, “It’s awesome. It’s just so amped up. It’s only July and we’re already out here doing this and the crowds pumped, the community’s pumped, so it’s awesome. It feels pretty good because I know I was looking up to the high schoolers back in my day and now they’re out here looking up to us. It’s awesome”.

6th Grade Youth Camper LD said, “It’s been pretty fun getting to do defensive work and offensive work.”

“What’s been your favorite part about the camp?”

“Probably running through the plays that they run”.

For those in Seneca interested, there will be another youth football camp for 1st to 6th graders on Thursday night from 7-8:30 p.m.
