Schneider Electric has revealed plans to create 280 jobs and invest $23.8 million into its South Carolina manufacturing operations.

The job growth and financial investment numbers earmarked for South Carolina are part of the company’s plan to invest a total of $140 million and create 750 new manufacturing jobs in its U.S. operations in 2024 as announced in March, according to a news release.

The expanded workforce 130 workers planned for the company’s Seneca facility and 150 workers planned for its Columbia facility will manufacture custom power distribution products.

The products are integral to electrification and energy efficiency, bolstering support for critical infrastructure, industries particularly health care and wastewater treatment and the escalating demand for data center solutions across the U.S., the release stated. The company currently employs roughly 1,200 workers in South Carolina.

Schneider will use the funds to upgrade, modernize and maintain its Seneca and Columbia manufacturing plants; it will also electrify Seneca’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system to enhance its efficiency and reduce costs, advancing its own sustainability and decarbonization targets, the release stated.

Speaking at the SelectUSA Investment Summit, Schneider Electric President of North America Operations Aamir Paul said: “As our economy becomes more digitized and electrified, Schneider Electric is spearheading this transformation through investments in a robust domestic supply chain. By improving our factory efficiency and growing our talented South Carolina workforce, we’re further contributing to the revitalization of American manufacturing. Thank you to Gov. (Henry) McMaster and the many local leaders who have fostered a welcoming, innovative business environment and continue to be invaluable partners for Schneider Electric’s growth in the Palmetto State.”

The announcement follows Schneider Electric’s recent manufacturing expansion announcements in Tennessee (March 2024) and Texas (September 2023). Since 2020, Schneider Electric has invested more than $440 million across its American manufacturing network, which includes more than 22 facilities across 14 states, the release stated.

Schneider Electric has had a presence in the U.S for 135 years. The company employs more than 19,000 workers in the country and its products and solutions can be found in four of 10 U.S. homes, 40% of the world’s hospitals, and in water and wastewater installations in 150 countries.

“Schneider Electric’s further investment in South Carolina is a testament to our strong business climate and skilled manufacturing workforce, and we look forward to the economic opportunities this expansion will create for residents in Oconee and Richland Counties,” McMaster said in the release.
