EASLEY — Imagine the dirt groveling under your cleats as dust passes your vision, and you hear the crowd getting quiet as the pitcher begins their swing. The sun beams down on you as you readjust the bat in your hands, and then you see the blurry pass of a ball heading towards you. All the months of late nights, early mornings, and long hours have built up to this moment. The pitch happens in mere seconds, but it feels like a lifetime before you swing your bat and it reaches the softball, striking it in a way that has the whole crowd watching. The ball keeps its momentum as it flies past the bleachers, and not a second passes before you take off to reach every base on the field.
Easley High School’s Varsity Softball is a team known for their commitment and dedication to their community and their sport, previously bringing in the title of Region 1 AAAA champions in 2023. As the Lady Wave approaches the end of their season, these girls are stepping off the field with 8 wins under their belt so far in a highly competitive year. In the past few weeks, Easley’s Varsity Softball team traveled to Blue Flame territory and took on Pickens High School, coming out of the intense rival match victoriously with a score of 6-1. Shortly following, the Lady Wave conquered Berea High School at home with a striking match, marching off the field with a score of 19-2 and another win in their book.
With only a few days left, Easley’s Varsity Softball team continues to show up and show out to take on their last game of the season - Daniel High School. During the 2023 season, the Lady Wave took on Daniel at home and brought home a 3-2 win, proving that they are more than capable of bringing in another win against the Lions. With just a few more practices left, these girls are putting in their all to ring in one more win before the lights go off on their last game. Fortunately for some of the seniors, their softball career doesn’t end on April 25th. Seniors Callen Saxon and Cora Levy are committed to playing softball at Gardner Webb University, continuing their career in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, and senior Emily Morgan is committed to playing at the University of South Carolina Beaufort, continuing her career in Bluffton, South Carolina.
Easley High School’s Varsity Softball team is continuing their journey of greatness by bringing their all to the finish line, and the Lady Wave remains undefeated in discipline, school spirit, and pride. As the clock ticks down on the last moments of the season, Coach Staton has prepared these girls to make Easley history and to continue to make their community proud. In the land of the E, home of the wave, the sound of bats and cleats can only mean that the Green Wave is working and are working to be better than best.
