Seattle cop fired over remarks about Indian graduate student’s death
Officer Daniel Auderer has been fired from the Seattle Police Department, according to an internal email sent to the department on Wednesday evening. Auderer was caught on body camera laughing about the death of an Indian graduate student after she was run over by another officer in 2023. Interim Seattle Police Chief Sue Rahr notified department staff of her decision by email. “For me to allow the officer to remain on our force would only bring further dishonor to the entire department,” Rahr said. “For that reason I’m going to terminate his employment.” Rahr said at the root of the case lay “an extremely difficult judgment call of how to fairly balance ‘intent versus impact.’”

Edmonds Sketchers and Shoreline Watercolor and Sketching are teaming up to fill downtown Edmonds with sketch artists during the Art Walk this Thursday, July 18, from 5-8 p.m. Edmonds plays host this weekend to artists from around the world for Sketcher Fest 2024. Many of those visiting artists will be out and about capturing the evening with their sketches. Most will be in locations along 5th Avenue, including Cafe Louvre, the Hazel Miller Plaza and Main Street. Among the many businesses welcoming artists are Camp Vintage and Graphite (which will also have live music). If you are an artist, bring your art supplies and join the sketchers.
Mayor Harrell Proposes Urgent Public Safety Investments in Mid-Year Supplemental Budget Package
Seattle – Today, Mayor Bruce Harrell announced critical public safety investments as part of his Mid-Year Supplemental budget package which builds on the 2023-2024 adopted budget. In addition to previously announced efforts to expand the CARE Department and support youth mental health, the proposed investments include recruiting and training public safety staff, abating dangerous buildings, and improving sexual assault investigations, and will be net revenue neutral.
