Robert J. Creighton, former Suffolk police commissioner, dies at 86
Robert J. Creighton, a former Suffolk County police commissioner and Smithtown councilman, died on July 17 at the age of 86 after a long illness. Creighton began his career at the U.S. Post Office in Kings Park, working there until joining the newly formed Suffolk County Police Department, entering its first class in 1961. After 20 years, he went on to serve in other roles, including as chief investigator for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and as Suffolk County Police commissioner.
