Sevierville Buc-ee’s to be dethroned as world’s largest convenience store

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The sprawling Buc-ee’s in Sevier County has held the title of world’s largest convenience center for nearly a year. Its record run is now set to come to an end.

The 74,000-square-foot travel center located off of Exit 407 along Interstate 40 has held the superlative since it opened its doors on June 26, 2023 and overtook the 68,000-square-foot store in New Braunfels, Texas.

As the saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas . The Lone Star state will retake the top spot on June 10 when a 75,000-square-foot opens in Luling, Texas. The new recordholder will replace the city’s existing store, which was the brand’s first travel center when it was built in 2003.

Buc-ee’s has launched an major multi-expansion since 2019. Travel centers have sprung up across the South in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Crossville was the first to welcome a Buc-ee’s location to the Volunteer State in 2022. A third location is reportedly coming to the western part of the state.

The Sevierville Buc-ee’s was the first business to open at a 200-acre development owned and operated by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians aiming to attract some of the millions of visitors to Great Smoky Mountains National Park .
