    SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Following the holiday weekend, the City of Sevierville will begin a “significant road project” that is expected to cause lane closures on Old Knoxville Highway for multiple weeks.

    Starting on July 8, the Sevierville Department of Public Works will be working on the section of Old Knoxville Highway between Loop Road and Gists Creek Road. As long as weather and other conditions are permitting, the project is anticipated to be completed by 4 p.m. Friday, August 2.

    The weekslong project will require lane and full road closure as crews work to reshape and improve ditches, replace storm drainpipes, install new storm drainpipes, and perform full depth repairs on falling sections of the roadway.

    Tentatively, the closures are anticipated to be:

    • July 15-19: Ditch and storm drain work; single lane closures 7:00 a.m.- 4 p.m.;
    • July 22-26: Full 24-hour road closure to perform full depth roadway repairs;
    • July 29-August 2: Remaining ditch, storm drain, and full depth repair work as necessary; single lane closures 7:00 a.m.- 4 p.m.

    The City of Sevierville says to expect delays during the single lane closures, especially during heavy traffic periods, and that both lanes will be reopened after 4 p.m. daily. During the 24-hour road closure, no traffic will be permitted until the required work is completed at the end of the week.

    During these closures, motorists are advised to consider alternate routes, to exercise caution and to be prepared for changing traffic patterns, large equipment and workers.
