Man charged in fatal shooting in Seymour, Sheriff’s office identifies victim

SEYMOUR, Tenn. (WATE) — A man has been charged in a fatal shooting in that happened in Seymour on Thursday, according to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.
Previously, BCSO shared that the shooting took place Thursday evening at a residence on Maple Road in Seymour and one person was dead.
Saturday afternoon, The sheriff’s office released that Robert P. Berry, 40, of Maples Road had been charged with criminal homicide. He is being held at the Blount County Correctional Facility.
Thursday evening, deputies responded to a home on Maples Road after Berry reportedly called Blount County Communications and said he had shot his roommate, BCSO said. When deputies arrived, Berry surrendered peacefully, and deputies found the victim, Clinton A. Lovingood, 51, inside the residence with a gunshot wound.
Medics with American Medical Response were unable to revive Lovingood and he was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center.
BCSO said investigators are continuing to investigate the shooting, and additional information will be released as it becomes available. The sheriff’s office added thanks to the TBI investigators who assisted with the investigation.
